It's a filter. I did a 50% yesterday , my tap water contains ammonia so it would get worse if I changed too often. I put the filter on setting B (he was getting stressed on A) with a plastic filter baffle that people make to reduce the flow for Bettas . Are you sure about turning it off ?

I found something in a fishkeeping book , however it doesn't explain how to stop the behaviour.

I can make the flow like a vertical spray bar . Like I said , Dad's stingy. My parents won't drive me to the LFS until the weekend . What can I do to help him ? He looks really unhappy ...

Stingy means unwilling to spend money

LED strip lights as my Dad is stingy and won't buy me proper ones. I know they don't like strong current , which is why I baffled the filter. But the current is stronger now I've put the flow as you suggested. Yes, he's still very stressed .

My filter output is too strong , I had to baffle it as he was getting swept around the tank. How do I get it to push air in ?

There isn't an air pump & bubbler , but there is an internal power filter.

Yeah , I turned off the lights to not stress him out too much . I do 50% water changes every week. I'm really sorry but I don't think I should get another dwarf gourami because the males kill each other and my LFS doesn't sell the females. Unless you mean I should get another type of fish .

Hi , my black skirt tetra has been sick for a while now with lymphocytsis (sp?) , he was getting better , but now he just looks really bad. His body is all swollen , he had string white poop yesterday , half his dorsal fin is missing and he hides a lot. The phot was taken around feeding time ...

In my opinion , it sounds like the fish got used to being in dirty water , then when you added clean water they freaked out.

Also , how long had it been since your last water change ? The fish might in shock because of the change in water parameters.

A funny smell you say ... Was the water straight from the tap ? Did it somehow get contaminated ?

Did you have anything on your hands before the WC ? Were you cleaning (with chemicals) ?

If I rub it off , will it come back onto another plant or on the glass or not at all ? Thanks !

I don't think it's algae , as no other plants have spots , only Anubias . The glass (well acrylic) appears clean too. Here's a better picture : The gravels not new , it was used in a previous setup of the same tank. Here's another picture of the Anubias:
