So I'm getting stuff together for my first planted build and was wondering if there are any unwritten rules about planted tanks. Stuff such as, never use activated carbon, or all air stones are bad... Etc.. Stuff like that is stuff I'd like to know.

If so, what is your replacement rate? I run some in my 10G in a HoB (not ideal, but it's what I got) and I haven't changed it in about 4 months. I'm just assuming for now that when Phosphate starts showing, I change it out. I test PO4 levels maybe every other week or so using Saliferts kit...

So I never know exactly where I should be when checking these colours, especially on Nitrate tests. I get very different colour when measuring under ambient light, when shining a torch at it, when standing with my back to a window, when holding a piece of white paper behind it.... Ect.. So...

Well... I've finally got my new Moonlights going. I've switched from a very bright and washed out Royal Blue which was just too much for both myself and the livestock: To a nice and dim UV which gives me the fluorescence I want without the insane blue look: It looks much more purple...
