    Brown algae problem

The current tank has only been set up for like 6 weeks. The filter that is in that tank had been running for about 4 months prior to putting it in the 55 gallon. I had the fish in a 29g prior to moving them to the 55g and I never had any issues with this stuff. Sent from my iPhone using...

    Brown algae problem

Hello everyone! So I haven't been in here as often anymore because I had I take my fish to my mothers home so she can "fish-sit" for me since I'm not allowed to have them at my apartment. So now that my 55g is at my mom's house I have noticed that there is this brown stuff growing on the glass...

Got ya thanks! Petsmart had the info on it and it said 29 gallons but I figured that wasn't right. Thank you everyone for your input!

    Comparability question...

Hey y'all! So now that I've updated my fish tank from a 29 to a 55 gallon I would like to get one more fish to have it as the flashy one in the group. I actually have in there mixed Mbunas that I bought when I first started with cichlids. I know there is red zebra, kenyi, electric yellows...

    Hood issue

Most glass covers have a plastic strip that you can attach to the glass to cover the whole top of your tank. You can cut the plastic just around your filters or whatever you have sticking out the back and that way your tank is covered almost 100%

    Showing off new tank!

Thank you! The rock does look like it's gonna fall but it's actually pretty lodged in. I fixed it after I took the picture. And the led light is from the new national geographic brand. I definitely recommend it.

That's awesome! I would love to go bigger or even have multiple tanks but unfortunately I don't have the space for them. Good luck finding that 90g!

    Showing off new tank!

Hey y'all! I just wanted to show off my new 55 gallon tank and stand. I bought the tank during the petco $1/gallon sale and hadn't been able to set it up til now. I decided to be extra adventurous and made my own stand (first time building anything). I'll be adding my cichlids in a few days once...

    Starting goldfish tank

Hello there. So up until now I've only kept African cichlids but my boyfriend is wanting to get some goldfish. I have a 29g tank that I'll be using but I have a few questions. 1) Is it ok to use sand as substrate? Or is gravel a better option for goldfish? 2) How many goldfish would I be able...

    Picky eating jewel

Hey y'all! Happy Friday :-) So today I have more of an observation rather than a question. I have several Mbunas in my tank and I have one red jewel that was given to me along with some I the other fish I have. I feed them NLS cichlid formula and they all seem to love it and eat it up right...

    Please help ID...weird nose

Hello everyone. So I've had this guy since he was a little under an inch long and now that he's gotten bigger I noticed his nose is not like the other cichlids I have. Is it some kind of deformity or is it supposed to be like that? Thanks y'all!

What kind of sand to use and how many Cichlids

I don't think it would actually. Google a synodontis catfish. They're from Africa and they don't take any bullying from the cichlids.

What kind of sand to use and how many Cichlids

Yeah you'll need to rinse it very well. What I did once was put it in a bucket and stuck a hose in and let it run at a low stream for like an hour or so until the water comes out clean

What kind of sand to use and how many Cichlids

I think you should be good then. If your water is at that ph now I would just go for the pool filter sand then. That way you don't spend too much on the other kind. Just don't do gravel. African cichlids like to dig around a lot.

What kind of sand to use and how many Cichlids

Ok. The temp for Africans should be about 75-85. I keep my water at 80 degrees. Ph at 7.8. They are pretty messy so you'll need to keep up with water changes or removing poop with a turkey baster.

What kind of sand to use and how many Cichlids

Well since you have a 29g I would say Africans would be better since a lot if Americans get very large unless you go for like rams or apistos. Mbunas are very bright and colorful. They are aggressive but as long as you provide enough rocks and caves you should be good. Maybe someone else can...
