    Is this aptasia?

    I discovered this in my tank today. I've had an aptasia outbreak before, but this looks a little different. There doesn't appear to have a stalk and there are reddish stripes on the tentacles. I was thinking it might be a brittle star, but wanted to make sure.

    Of it's been sitting in a shelf for years there shouldn't be anything but dust to worry about. Just scrub it good with a stiff bristled brush and clean water and you are ready to go

    You can use any rock for SW and it will eventually become live. Just put the dry in with a couple of pieces of live while you cycle the tank. The live rock will seed it and there you go...,

    Snow flake in reef

    I have found with mine that it keeps him satiated if I feed him until he quits coming back out for more, then wait until he acts hungry a couple of days later to feed him again. That's why mine doesn't bother the other fish IMO.

    I also have a snowflake in my reef tank with 2 damsels, blue tang and an oscillaris(sp). He's about 18" long and doesn't bother any of the other occupants. I have no lid on the tank and he makes no effort to get out. As far as them being 'dirty' I have had no issuer with that either. Water...

    It's an algae bloom. I had the same thing after sever months of being set up. Do PWC's and cut back on your lighting.
