anyone experienced with buying live rock online?

I just bought two shipments of 88 lbs of live rock from http://www.reefermadness.us/ . Great Stuff! Shipping is included in their price, so there are no hidden charges. I bought some Kaelini and Pukani....equals out to around 4.50 to 5.00 a pound. Incredible shapes and sizes.

Major Tank change what should I do?

First thing you need to do, is find temporary housing for all of your inverts, coral, and fish. You're about to start a brand new tank cycle, unless all of your live rock is completely cured. So you need to find a place to keep all of your stuff for a couple of weeks at least.

    Favorite Personality Fish

I think that Lenny the Bicolor Blenny is my favorite at the moment. He just loves to roam around and perch and check things out. He'll come right up to the front of the tank and say hi to me at anytime, with those cool eyelashes sticking out! He also is kinda stubborn in a good way. When I...

Cyling with live rock....can I add a hermit crab?

You can cycle with any amount of live rock. The problem comes in if you want to add more live rock. If you add "uncured" rock after your cycle, you will start a new cycle. So if you plan on adding more rock, I'd probably go ahead and do it now, and do your aquascaping at the same time. Not...

Switching over my filters for reef keeping - oops Help pleas

I would hold off on any more changes in the tank right now. You just took out about 1/3 of your established biological filtration. Let the live rock and and live sand play catch up now, so they can replace the noodles. Not sure how long you should wait before taking out other parts, but I...

Switching over my filters for reef keeping - oops Help pleas

Don't remove everything at once if you have any fish or coral in the tank. I believe you stated that your LFS said to take one piece of bio-filtration out at a time, and this is what I have read and been told as well. The more LR the better, but I believe it's a matter of style past about 1...

    green star polyps. HELP!

Lol, maybe I should have used a frown, instead of rolling eyes, Fluff. Just meant to say that I wish I had the knowledge you guys do, but I'd throw my 2 cents in anyhow.

LFS said to "brush" my LR when I get it.

My first 2/3 of rock was uncured, and my LFS gave me a preparation made for cleaning LR (think it was made by Kent or someone like that). Not sure how much this stuff helped if any, but it was free and had a brush on one end. I cleaned all of my rock at the time, 22 lbs, and couldn't believe...

    Mixing Star Polyps

I bought a piece of branching live rock about a week ago, that looked like it had been used for frags, and lucky for me it had !! I now have a small colony of what appears to be pinkish star polyps. I also have a thriving rock full of bright neon green star polyps. My question is this: Can I...

    green star polyps. HELP!

Guess it depends on the colony itself and any trauma during move, as well as water quality. I'm definitely not Fluff or Steve-S  . I bought some 2 weeks ago, and also bought some DT's Phytoplankton. In less than 24 hours they were opened up to the max, and have almost covered the...

    Electric Blue Question

Well, I made it through 8O ! Only about 10 power glitches through the evening, with no actual lengthy power outages (good for me and the fish :P ). Overall, no major damage in the Birmingham area, just power outages and some downed trees. Compared to when I lived in the Cocoa Beach area of...

Looking for ideas for a 100G SW that came with our house.

Beautiful tank and design, I'd love to have that kind of a set-up. I've actually thought about something similiar when I buy my next house. I wouldn't place the rock to shield the bedroom though. Think about maybe having a screen that can either be pulled down or electronically controlled to...

    Calcium??

There are as many different designs for aquascaping as you can think of. Personally, I think whatever looks good to you as you move the rocks around and stack/combine them, is what you should do, although there are diagrams of scaping out there. 10 lbs of live rock seems way too low for a 44...
