    reverse osmosis machine?

the main problem with dechlor. tap water is that the disolved solids in the water will be high and most tap water contains phosphate. both of these will contribute to all types of algae problems. you could try it but once you get hair algae growing on the rocks, its hard to get rid of the stuff...

    Decorative Spider Crab and Hermits

i have lots of extra shells and my hermits still eat the snails.i over feed the tank about once a week to give them something to feed on but i have come to see the snails as live food. the hermits still do a good job cleaning the tank so i think is worth having them. find a cheap place to buy...

    reverse osmosis machine?

you should replace the membrane once a year. the di resin and carbon filters about every 6 months. probably around $100-140 a year on maintanance. this is just a rough guess. you have to test the water coming from the filter to see when you need to replace things.

    Ro/Di quality issues...and a few other questions..

this is strange. chloramine molecules are fairly large and surely be filtered out by the membrane and definitely by the di resin. this is the ro unit you posted on another post with the 2 di chambers right? depending on the test, they will show up as ammonia. how much water have you run...

whats involved in a tank like this?

maybe some shrooms? be carful what soft coral you put in that small of a tank because they will out grow it in no time. if you choose xenia, make sure to put it on a small rock away from the rest as in the pic so you can prevent it from spreading to fast. you will also need to prune it...

    reverse osmosis machine?

check filterdirect on ebay. they have good ro/di units for about 110 bucks. ro units will be better for your tank and cheaper than premixed water in the long run. i have one of these filters from ebay and at a reef meeting last week i found out that i was starting out with the worst water...

    Say it aint so Fluff......

joes juice works ok but you need to turn off the power heads for about 20 minutes so the aiptasia has time to injest. make sure you completly cover them or they will just grow back. ive used it on the sema aiptasia several times and they keep growing back. i cant really get mine that well...

    Say it aint so Fluff......

its a little hard to tell but i think it is. is it possible to turn the rock to get a better look? sometimes if they are on the under side of a rock they will strech and loose color. i also have had some that were pretty clear. turn the rock and wait. you should get a better shot of him then...

HOB overflow Box Vs. Internal overflow box

i like the fact that with the internal setup, the new ones from all-glass, it draws water from all depths of the tank.i know that maost of the crud is at the top but if you can get all that crap removed from the tank before it breaks down then your water should stay much more clean. also, you...

    Restoring Neglected Tank

yea, you dont want that domino in there. i hate those guys. ive moved my tanks several times and have never lost anything. i usually do about a 50% water change also. maybe ive just been lucky, who knows.

    Restoring Neglected Tank

adding algae to the sump would help and i would do a LARGE water change when you move the tank depending on the fish load and delicacy of the coral. zoos are pretty tough. you could also get a yellow tang. i dont know of your stocking plans but they seem to be standard practice for a mixed reef...

    Deteriorating gorgonia...shrivelling zenia...Help!

everytime my tank hits 80 or above the xenia tend to wilt and look ratty for a few weeks. most of the time they pull through. i would guess temp on the xenia. just watch them and make sure they dont get to far gone. if it is a large colony then you could possibly thin them out a bit by fraging...
