    Lighting?

With all of the light fixtures suggested, bar the t8 shop lights, co2 will most definitely be needed.

    Lighting?

If you want to go with LEDs, get a fugeray ray2. Its in the correct spectrum and gives off higher par than all of the fixtures previously stated. Its a tad more expensive, but totally worth it!

I honestly don't think adding two strip LEDs would have that much of an effect on your light output. Most strip LEDs commercially available are used just to add color and "brighten" up the tank, although they don't have much if anything beneficial for plant growth. However, if you were to get...

    fluval stratum with sand cap.

Dirt works so well!! It's a lot cheaper and is perfect for heavy root feeders. I've had no problems with my dirt, and my tank is very clean. No ammonia spikes, no nothing. All I have over it is about 1.5" PFS. And when my MTS go under, they don't bring soil back up with them.

A 3 foot LED should fit perfectly on your tank. However there are slim pickings for freshwater LEDs that can sustain plant growth. Commonly used LEDs are: current USA freshwater satellite plus, Catalina has a few, and flick has one that I've heard good reviews on. The intensity of LED bulbs...

    Stocking Replacement suggestions

Thanks for the input. I've never had cardinals or neons due to the fear of being eaten by my angels. I also considered CPD but locally they're around 8 dollars a piece and I'm not ready to drop $100 on a school at the moment. If you had the choice between giant danios, zebra danios, and...

    Stocking Replacement suggestions

Hi guys! I have a 55 gallon planted aquarium and I have plenty of filtration. My current stock is as follows: 1 pair of paradise gourami, 1 bushy nose pleco, 12 serpae tetra, 1 angel, 1 yellow dream killifish, and 1 dalmation molly. I want to get rid of everything except the gouramis and pleco...

But there's few plants that actually NEED super high lighting.

    Hardy plants

The necessity of co2 varies in the lighting you choose. If you go with a dual t5, which is plenty for most plants, you won't need co2. IMO, quad fixtures are overkill unless what you're going for is short, carpeting plants like baby tears or dwarf hair grass. In which case you would need to...

    Hardy plants

And when I say "stronger", I mean that they're able to penetrate the water better and reach a deeper level than t8s.

T5s are stronger. Right now, you have low light, but a t5 would allow you to grow a lot more, depending on whether you use a dual or quad fixture. I have a dual t5 and I can grow just about whatever I want save carpeting plants. But just keep in mind that higher light will allow for more...

    Hardy plants

First off, I would recommend you switch out the color bulb for another daylight bulb. Or just get a new fixture entirely, maybe t5s. If you want to grow a wider variety of plants that is. Some plants you should be able to get away with are: anacharis, Anubis, java fern/moss, hornwort, and...
