    Canister Filter uptake

So first a little history. I'm working with a 48" 55G planted. I used to have 2 smaller HOB filters set about about 8 inches from each end to get good flow in the tank. During some cleaning I... misplaced the impeller to one of them. SO instead of re-upping the HOB I went with a canister. I...

    Liquid Nail Toxic?

General rule of thumb.... if you will not put it in a glass, let it dry and drink from that glass. don't put it in your fish tank. That said, Liquid nails site says once dry its non-toxic. When I made my background I was not sure what to use so I just anchored it using weights at the bottom...

    Moving house

I've just moved my self. To start let me make it clear, my tanks are healthy, reasonably algee free and heavily planted. I was lucky enough to have extra tanks and a 2 weeks access to the new place before I moved in. That said, What I did was this. Since I run dual filters on my 2 tanks 200L...

    Ryukin help?! Upside down ryukin

Not a good sign, but not the end of your fish ether. I would stop feeding him for a few days. Trust me he will be fine. Leave the lights out also, it will help de-stress him. As always 50% PWC. But mainly the stop feeding. And stop treatment of any and all chems in the take outside of a simple...

2 HOB filters for 120g tank

I am about to get a 120g 60x18 (or something close) and just till I can afford a larger canister filter should I drop a smaller job filter (2 rated for 30-40g) to sub the canister. Or should I just trust to the one canister. Its a planted tank and I am getting it in full stride. Just draining...

    Fish to avoid?

Honestly even if they do a little munching on the plants, it really is very healthy for them. Just keep away from silver dollars and I'm sure you will be fine. In the end most fish eat plants to one degree or another. And unless you wake up one day to an empty tank and a bunch of fat fish you...

    Fish to avoid?

I have never had any issues with my tiger barbs doing anything to my plants.

    Barbs picky eaters?!?

I feed my barbs a mix of Tetra Pro crips, bloodworms (both dryed and frozen), and a "veggy blend" I get from a local fish shop. The only thing I could never get them to eat was brine shrimp.

    Tiger Barb aggression

I will second that. I've kept Tigers for years and they re-defined aggressive fish for me. But yea give them some time they will finish the "big fish game" as my wife likes to call it. 7 should be fine, but as always the more the better, I kept a group of 18 or so...:) But even if they seem to...

    Algae wafers

Any "food" left in the tank will break down and cause problems. As with any food you should scoop it out if it is not eaten within a time frame. Being a wafer, and assuming you are feeding a bottom feeder like a pleco that take their good time eating. If you toss it in at night scoping un-eaten...

    Eco Complete

I have found that it helped level out some of my numbers. I've been using it for a few years now. It is a little short on fe3 so you may wish to consider tabs for or an additive. Only thing of note is I've notice it is a PH buffer.

    Plant ID..

I agree, Lots of very young amazon swords, center, defiantly a crypt in the middle looks like ether Wendtii green or bronze. You have something else in the back with a more round leaf that I don't recognize. But that one is differently a Wendtii of some kind... a better picture would really...

Because I work 50 hours a week and don't have power tools since I live in an appartment? And buying the tools to build a stand would defeat the cost reason to build my own. I was hopeing someone had one for sell, guess not I'll head down to walmart.

Need tankmate suggestion for a 55g & Pleco

Well I've decided on the angles. I believe I can find some simply striped ones. As for the swords, yea I know what you mean by hundreds of leaves. Them things were so big when I finally removed them that the tops were sticking out of the water. Thier gravel at the time was simple natural...

    Low pH?

I had the same problem. I moved from simple gravel to mostly eco-complete and it fixed my problem. My PH was also around 6 and the tap was right around 7.4. My KH was low. Once I added the eco, everything seemed to stablize for me. And the plants loved it!

    Snail Invasion

There is one other option depending on how aggressive / passive your tank is. Or if you can move fish to another tank for a while. Dwarf Puffers! They eat snails, love snails. I had a simular problem and refused to use chemicals or break down a heavly planted 20g-Long tank. The single...

Need tankmate suggestion for a 55g & Pleco

HEHEH I like Amazon swords, and I do have a green thumb. Wet or dry. I used to have a pair of amazon swords that got so big I was able to sell them to the local shop as motherplants since they were constantly sending off more plants. They no longer fit in the 55g tank after only 1 year...

Need tankmate suggestion for a 55g & Pleco

What to do with a 55 gallon tank and a 3 year old happy pleco. I'm thinking maby Angles or Discus I've always wanted both. But I don't know that they would work in such a small tank. Any suggestions

    Tigerbarbs killing Tigerbarbs???

Neons are FAST. So far they have seemed very happy in the larger tank. They will have thier own heavly planted tank soon enough. Right now they got lots of plants to hide in when they want to. But they don't hide much. But the newer barbs do take a swim right threw thier school when they get...

    Tigerbarbs killing Tigerbarbs???

I've got a bit of an odd problem that I did not for-see. (to skip story go to paragraph 3) A good number of months ago my 55 Tigerbarb tank was all but killed off due to a backwashed Yeast CO2... no idea really, other than only the pleco and 5 of the 12 tigers survived. And even then needed...

    Vent

Wow is all I can really say to that. It sounds like you should be thinking of the 125 sooner then later. Now let me explain this. Pleco is 3" now will become 9 - 16 pending food and happieness. Redtailed shark will grow to become 6 - 9 inches long (I have a 7 inch long rainbow, VERY close...
