Put in a new heavy duty HOB filter last nigh and this morning woke up to a white spot on Oscar head. I immediately thought hole in head disease :( but looking closer I wonder if he ran into the filter last night. I'm worried because I will be leaving for lake Powell for a week on Monday! Here...

My LFS will do the same! However, I have not been able to take advantage of that yet. Lets just say I have a lot of Kenyi in my main tank haha

It's good that we can all learn from our mistakes as we go. It's hard to loose fish but we are that much more prepared the next go around. Hopefully we don't have to keep learning those lessons. ;) Everyone on the forum can give advice because they have either learned the hard way or knew...

Wow!! I guess nothing is ever really safe from the jaws of an oscar! Thanks for sharing! I may move my pictus to another tank when the oscar starts to catch up in size. They do really help clean up after the oscar when he eats, but I don't want to loose the pictus or the oscar to a dinner mishap.

In my tank I have a male and female kenyi that reproduce often, a yellow tail acei, small yellow lab, and many juvenile kenyi as a result of the mature breeding pair.

Definitely! :) I saw the eggs and all through it's lips. And could see the throat was huge. She usually holds for about three or four days then swallows all. I'm assuming that could be because they are not fertilized. But how is she laying eggs and holding them without a male?

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has had their oscar ear their pictus catfish. If you put the oscar with them when he is small, he won't. But will he when he gets bigger if they grow with him or are full grown already? I hear they grow to about 6"

Interesting thought. Cool to have a female that is so yellow! My female gets kind of brownish blue but never that yellow! Beautiful fish and great picture!

If you put pictus catfish with an oscar, would they end up as lunch? Or will their spiny fins deter the oscar?
