    A Blast From the Past!

Howdy campers :) Yep, tis me! I know I haven't been on in AGES, but I have a good reason; he's now 3 months old and adorable. My pregnancy was hell; I had one complication after another, and in the midst of everything moved as well! But all is well with the world now, and I had a few minutes...

    Wart on Oscar?

Hiya covergerl: I'll answer in here in case this helps anyone else with the same issues. First things first; whats the water parameters? What have you done so far to treat it? I've a couple of thoughts, but am gonna need more info: There's a chance its a simple bacterial infection; a round...

    AngleFish adding?

Figure angels need around 10g each. Keep in mind they're cichlids and are territorial, especially around breeding age (about 10 months and beyond, although some breed earlier). All angelfish strains are the same, so technically they all top out at the same size, but water husbandry and diet play...

    Do you qt shrimp?

Its always a good idea to QT anything live thats going into an established tank. That being said, I never QT shrimp LOL I do make sure I am VERY careful about not getting any of the lfs tank water, or anything thats touched it, into my tanks. Never know what might have hitched a ride. I...

Newbie with inherited aquariums needs help

The cloudiness is due in part to the imbalance in nitrifying bacteria. Its caused by heterotrophic bacteria, who show up and party sometimes, when theres not enough nitrifying bacteria to compete. Not dangerous in and of itself, just unsightly. The ammonia and nitrite levels ARE dangerous tho...

    Angel help please

How are you acclimating them? Whats the difference between the lfs pH and you tank's? If its not disease related, it may be pH related.

Golden Gouramis dying with white crust around mouth

Actually rapid onset/death is typical of an acute case of columnaris. Theres an excellent article on columnaris here for future reference: http://www.aquamaniacs.net/flex.html

    Deformed Fry

Unless you are going to keep it yourself and not breed it, I'd suggest culling it. The lfs will likely not buy it, and if they do someone else may wind up buying it and breeding it. Definitely not what we want to encourage!

    BEYOND BAFFLED-- Cannibalism? wtf!!

I've a similar prob MG; lost an oto in one tank (with only algae shrimp, cardinals and dwarf gouramis otherwise in the tank!), and a keyhole in another tank. No bodies, not even a skeleton. I haven't the vaguest!

Golden Gouramis dying with white crust around mouth

Ugh. I suspect columnaris, aka mouth fungus. Its actually a bacterial infection, but kinda looks like a whitish grey fungus and is often found around the mouth. Keep a very close eye on your other guys. Its infectious, but if the others are in really good shape they should be able to fight it off.

A guide to getting good service at a Pet'smart

It truly works Atlarge. I've used it 4 times successfully. You might want to give it a go next tank you set up; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    My betta is acting strangely...

Go take a peek at the article I wrote on ich; its in our article section here :) I actually never use meds to treat ich, so I don't know how effective SuperIck is; I suspect, if it contains malachite green, its as effective as most of the other typical ich meds. While I normally suggest the...

Should a newbie consider trying cichlids??

There are a TON of cichlids out there; some are really challenging and prob not the best fish to start with, but there are plenty out there which are easy to work with. I keep angelfish, rams and keyhole cichlids. All my guys are South American cichlids (I prefer them to the Africans) and my...
