    Get a fake intake tube. Just stick the hose going to your canister onto the intake that they don't spawn on, and if you use an HOB, then you could just get the whole 180deg part and jerry rig it so it holds onto the tank and hook the filter up somewhere else.

    brackish fish in a fw tank

    Those fish need full brakish, and die in straight fresh. They are slow but can be nasty to others in the tank so be sure that your other brakish fish in the tank can hold their own.
