    Actually I agree canister should be cleaned if her skimmer is pulling protein out it will build up in the canister causing a rise in nitrates Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    It could be as simple as your new skimmer isn't doin it's job yet you said your not getting any foam and coupled with new sand could be your problem I'd keep doing water changes maybe 25% a week till it levels out Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Kalking them works but they will keep coming back for a while. Try it just keeping an eye on them once you see a new one kalk it... Oh and just to be clear when I say "Kalk" I mean Kalkwasser/pickling lime mixed into ta slurry. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Most require lots of water flow and also lots of plankton most die from to much algae growth and not enough nutrients some species are highly toxic do plenty if research first Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice
