    Severum ich?

Since you just added the fish - are you sure that they are not air bubbles? I have to think that you would have seen such spots on the fish at the store. Were they?

    Experienced vs InExperienced

Yes, I buy almost everything on amazon. It seemed to me (and Andy based on the context of his post you've quoted above) that you were talking about information, not products. Thanks for clarifying. Carry on :-)

Fish has ICK and I mightve messed up

I would have gotten the meds out of the tank yesterday... It's just a waiting game though. You should see marked improvement after about 3 days with the spots seriously thinning out after 5. If that's not happening, you can bump the temp up to 88.

The cause is WIDELY speculated, and unknown. To suggest that it's a result of nitrates is very misleading.

Fish has ICK and I mightve messed up

If your current heater can get you to the high 80s then you don't really need an additional heater.

Fish has ICK and I mightve messed up

Unless you are prophylactically treating the fish for ich in quarantine, chances are you will face it again at some point in the future so it's best to be prepared to take care of it. I'm not saying this to put you down or anything, but fish should never die from ich. The window of treatment...

Well that's great for you too. Not everyone is as concerned about the fish pooping. Pictus cats would be another option in a tank of that size.

I've had the complete opposite experience keeping cichlids and loaches together in a 125.

Not in my experience with a very similar setup. There is a WORLD of difference between Corys and the loaches mentioned. In addition to attitude and behavior, loaches are quite capable of defending themselves while Corys are not.

In a 125 I would get like 10 yoyos. The stock was listed a few posts ago.

    Need a sand sifter

Are you trying to buy them at petsmart? Or do they actually not have any?

    Bottom feeder

Loaches? There are a ton that stay less than 9 inches. Yoyo loaches would be a good choice, or Angelicus loaches if money is burning a hole in your pocket. Or you can take it to the next level and get some skunk loaches. Not all that big, but aggressive. And if you want something along...

    Ich killed thrme all...what now?

If all your fish have died, then just leave the tank be for a week or two and the parasites will have died out. They require a host to complete and perpetuate their life cycle. Running the heater will speed up the process. Way back when, when I used to medicate, I found some products worked...

Corys are not well suited to such fish. IME loaches are the way to go.

    Need a sand sifter

Tough to find MTS? You don't have a petsmart or the like?

    Python water changer

Yes, water changers can make you lazy because changing the water becomes so much easier and less time consuming.

    Choosing heater for oscar

Yup, definitely want one that isn't made of glass. Oscars can be very brutish and can break things like glass heaters.

Fish has ICK and I mightve messed up

Good advice given in this thread.

    Bottom feeder

Yup - food consumed by bottom feeders becomes nitrates just as uneaten food ultimately does. Perhaps the consumption reduces the amount of nitrates some... Agreed, without knowing which cichlids you have, it's impossible to make any recommendations.

    Failure :(

That's easy - I was being sarcastic in this thread. The point being that you don't learn anything encapsulating yourself in a bubble of overprotection.

    Failure :(

I didn't read the thread really, but the title got my attention. It's wonderful that we have the Internet now. We can all do our very best to be perfect fish keepers and not make any mistakes by doing diligent research and following the myriad of warnings about this and that that are out...

    Experienced vs InExperienced

Time served is great and all, but it doesn't always speak to the depth or breadth of experience. Person A can keep 1 tank for 10 years and person B 10 tanks for 1 year. Assuming they are not all the same kind of tank, person B could have a great deal more experience than person A.

Will different species of Cory school together?

With respect to the topic at hand, space, or a lack thereof, has a profound impact on behavior. For example, I could keep 10 different Corys in a 10 gallon tank and say "look they're all hanging out together". Well yeah...where else are they going to hang out but with each other in a tank of...

Used lots of cleaners on inside of tank.. am I hosed?

Yeah with the cost of SW stuff that's not a surprise. That's a pretty common theme in the hobby though :-)
