What do I need to do?

The vertical element definitely helps. Couldn't find any CRS. Just RCS. :(

    What's been most frustrating?

Planting anything in my Flourite Black has been a real chore. It's about 2 1/2 inches deep. Everything seems to want to float out at first, but once I get it settled in, it takes a couple days to root in. That's my biggest issue. Other than that, snails. Thorough cleaning for every plant I...

What do I need to do?

Would the Anacharis do well with this stock LED? If I can remove that other cory, I'll put him in my 20 long with the other 5. I'll see if I can find a different type of moss, currently both of my LFS's only carry the Java, so I'll see if I can find it online. They do carry the Anacharis...

    Snail ID???

I had a Skunk Botia Loach eat tons of Ramshorns, before attacking and murdering several other fish. Might be a good option for the pond snails, too. I think he was a bad egg, though. My LFS told me he was rotten, but I didn't listen. He cut back on the snail population by nearly 90% (it was...

    40 Gallon Breeder project (help?)

I'm using a powerhead in my 20 long to diffuse DIY CO2, and think I want to do the same here. Only idea I've got. Want to hook a sponge filter to the bottom of it for bio-filtration, and will eventually remove the sponge filter for another 20 long, and replace the powerhead for a pressurized...

    40 Gallon Breeder project (help?)

Clueless currently. Love otocinclus and Neon Tetras, though.

What do I need to do?

It currently has two shrimp, and one little cory cat. I removed the other cory cat, and successfully removed 4 other shrimp (took about an hour at night) I'm not sure what I want in it. Thus far, everything hides so well, I never see anything in it. The two shrimp I left in are the only ones...

What do I need to do?

I've got a 2.5 gallon Fluval tank, and for some reason I'm just not happy with the aquascape. I've got a slight problem with ramshorn snails, working on that now. Should be cleared up in 1-2 weeks. Has Anubias barteri, and nana, Java Ferns, and Java Moss in it. Trying to add a picture now.

    Snail ID???

In my honest opinion, if you didn't invite them to the party, remove them before they invite their friends. I had a problem like this once, but with ramshorn snails. Only had two or three from a plant I thought was clean, and in a week or two, those two turned to 50. Then 200. Then what...

Moving tanks. How to transfer fish????

What I've done in the past is net them out, drip acclimate in a 5 gallon bucket, check water perimeters from both tanks, turn the light off on the new tank, and add them to it slowly, then turn the light back on in an hour or two. Somewhat minimizes stress. I'm sure there are some other ways...

What do you think is the best 12 gallon aquarium?

I'd probably go with the Fluval Edge. I actually looked at one the other day, did a little research, and it seems like a soild little setup. Has pretty good reviews, and th LED light with it would allow you to grow several different types of plants with ease. Also heavy planting would allow...

    Hiding filter intake and heater

Absolutely, it will. In fact, it will actually grow inside the filter, but it doesn't cause too much of a fuss. Easy to remove. Hope you get what you want for Christmas. I'm shooting for a new pair of boots, and maybe a Chris Reeve Sebenza. Haha. Regardless, it could take quite some time...

    Hiding filter intake and heater

I was just about to say the same thing. Inline heater and canister filter.

How much excel for a 55 gallon aquarium?

One capful should be fine. I believe it's actually 1 capful per 50 gallons according to the directions.

    8 month old planted tank

Looking good. How big is your tank? What kind of lighting are you working with? Using any root tabs? I would probably suggest a Nerite snail or two, they can cut back on algae pretty well. Also, is that a little bit of hair algae I see?

    liquid ferts?

This is actually quite old. I believe it started in the early 2000's. Algae is a plant. Perhaps you're unaware of photosynthesis. Let me spell it out for you. Light makes energy for plants. It is absorbed through chlorophyll, along with carbon dioxide. It is then converted into oxygen...

    liquid ferts?

Not trying to argue, nor upset anyone. I generally like to avoid conflict, but everyone has an opinion, and that is acceptable. The primary cause of algae is excessive nutrients. This is a worldwide phenomenon, in and outside of aquariums. Eutrophication. If your plants don't and cannot use...

    Nerite snails?

Could be shock, stress, dead..hard to tell. They are generally out and about at night, though. They are tough as nails. (I left two in a bag in my car for 6 hours, and they're perfectly fine, whoops!)

    liquid ferts?

Perhaps I should give the Osomocote Plus another whirl, and use a bit more this time. I've been known to under feed. ;)

    liquid ferts?

Excess nutes normally results in algae, nothing major to fish. Maybe inverts, or sensitive fish like otos.

    Java Fern Question

I just let them get about 2-3 inches and cut it off the old leaf. Mine normally do this in about 1-2 months. Super slow for me, but I have so many sometimes, I don't mind. My LFS does store credit for my excess plants.

    Long long story

Yes, you should be able to test the pH with the API kit, temp. is fine. Depending on what your pH is out of the faucet, you could either switch to fish that are more tolerable of a higher pH. If it's fine around 6.0-7.0, I wouldn't worry about it. Just wondering if there is something that may...
