Found two dead fish with no fins, please help!

I've also seen fish eat the fins off of other fish after they're dead. It may not necessarily be a bully just natural fish stuff. Mollies tend to be gentle and the same with guppies. If your filter is pushing around too much water the current constantly ruffling the fins can cause stress and...

    Will this stocking combo work?

I have a cory cats and they're pretty good bottom feeders but not so much on the algae front at least in my tank. They work best in groups of 6. I also have a bristlenose pleco that won't get bigger than 2-3" which is good for a tank your size. But you just have to be sure that your filtration...

    Bottom feeder help?

I have 4 but they recommend 6. They get about an inch and a half in length and I feed my fish api mini sinking pellets and they love to eat them too.

    Bottom feeder help?

You can get soooooo much life out of cory cats. They dart around like lightning bolts and do a pretty good job as a cleanup crew. Only downfall is they prefer to school with 6+ I have a set of albinos that really add to the character of the tank. They like to dart to the surface so a cover is...

    Filter intake

I've heard of people using a knee high (like panty hose) and cutting off what they need and using either a rubber band or aquarium safe hose clamp or something to hold it on. If it gets damaged they're pretty cheap to replace and to clean. I think you can buy a pair at Walmart for like 2$

    Do my fish look healthy?

They look healthy to me but before you worry about any possibility of disease, your first priority is to get your tank cycled and stablized. Ammonia is toxic to fish even in small amounts. NitrIte even worse than ammonia. If you haven't already I would get a api master test kit and watch your...

Please help me save my tank?

From what I read and see, you have replaced your substrate, decorations, filter pad, and most of your water. Because of this I agree with everyone else that you've started your cycle again. Seachem Prime will keep your fish alive while the cycle re-establishes itself. You can also purchase...

New to the forum sick betta

I second everything said above. They make small filters for betta tanks but you fish will be much happier with a filter. There is a great pinned article here about the nitrogen cycle and how to cycle with and without fish. Good luck :) pm or post with any other questions

    Advice on re-priming a canister

I am using two eheim in series. A 2217 and 2211. I got it to finally prime, and i had an air bubble in the intake hose which wouldnt allow enough water into the canister to force the air out of the outflow. I wound up doing exactly what you said, emptying the canister and doing some light...

I bought a pair of Bolivian rams together and recently one of them died. Can they live solo or should I attempt to get another?

    Advice on re-priming a canister

I have had my canister for a while but sometimes when the power goes out I lose the priming on my canister. It's an established system and there is no way in hell I am sucking on the outlet tube to prime. Any suggestions on easy priming? My bulb method takes forever and doesn't always work...

Dwarf gourami and others, ph crash and unstoppable ammonia

Another good set of stuff that can help is seachem prime and stability. I use them even in setup aquarium and they haven't let me down yet. Prime will detoxify the ammonia so it won't kill your fish but it will still show up on the readings so you have to keep an eye out. Stability is also a...

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

My absolute fave is the neon. For some reason those little fish just get me every time. I love having my school of them :)

    I screwed up!

The acurelf is an organic product that makes particles stick together. It's not a chemical. Most "chemicals" in this hobby won't kill your fish. Chlorine used in city water disinfection, ammonia, nitrites, and over medicating for diseases is usually the culprit. Things like prime only help...

    I screwed up!

I got a similar whitish cloud after I did a blackout for algae and was working on water changes. Try a settling drop like acurelf. You may have small particulate floating in the water from the new filters or sand. That's why they say to rinse sands and filters before use. I would also highly...

    Tank cycling?

Read the directions on the bottle for dosing frequency. Just note that prime will detoxify the ammonia but it doesn't remove it so it will still show on your test until the bacteria can break it down.

    Tank cycling?

The test strips aren't very good IMO the test kit will give you more accurate results. The api master kit is about $20 and will last a LOOONG time.

    I screwed up!

If you do water changes during your blackout it defeats the purpose of the blackout. Blackout means no lights no opening the tank to change water, nothing. You let it sit for days with a tiny hole for fish food. If you let in any light some algae will survive and cause an additional bloom after...

    pH crash

Most city water has altered pH to allow for proper cleaning and disinfection at the water plant (I'm a civil engineering student and learned this in classes :p) they also typically disinfect with chlorine so you should watch for chloramines too. Good luck ?

    New Filter Suggestions

I have an eheim canister filter and I love it. They are virtually silent and are much lower on maintenance than a whisper filter [which I switched from lol]

    I screwed up!

I had this problem frequently and had to deal with it often. I tried liquid algae killers, don't bother they don't touch it and are a waste of money tried less light meh didn't really help, nitrates were a problem in my tank but I couldn't reduce them without water changes frequently so I...
