What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I did a water change and planted some dwarf hairgrass.

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I replaced my aquarium gravel with sand, took out some decorations, and started soaking some new wood pieces in the aquarium bucket to get them ready to put in the tank. I'm transitioning to a more natural looking tank - though I'm not getting rid of my Greek vase! I love that thing too much.

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I picked some remaining dead plants out of my filter head, and gazed wistfully at the gravel substrate which I'll be replacing next week. Not looking forward to it.

Help! Need an easier way to do WC's

Have you tried a Python? My tank is downstairs and I too have to use an upstairs bathroom to drain/fill my tank. You would have to use your sink rather than your tub, but I've found it's such a relieving alternative to the old gravity-vacuum-and-bucket method. Mine is 50ft long but I think they...

    My 29 gallon Community Tank

I've been having unusually high levels of ammonia in my tank lately, so I've been doing 50% water changes daily. I don't know what's causing the high levels...my tank is clean, not many bits when I vacuum the gravel. There's no visible algae or anything. And yet my tank keeps reading 1 or 2 ppm...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I did yet another 50% water change. Currently I'm having some problems with the ammonia levels in my tank, so I'm trying to figure that out and get it back under control before I add any new fish.

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I did a water test and my ammonia level was alarmingly high, which surprised me since I haven't seen any ammonia at all in the tank since the cycle completed. I found that my java fern was dead which might have been the problem. I immediately did a 50% water change and intend to do another one...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I went to the LFS and bought two new corys, which I brought home and floated in the tank, drip acclimated, and added in with my other corys. While siphoning to start the drip I got my first ever mouthful of aquarium water (the first of many, I'm sure). I topped off the tank and added a little...

    My 29 gallon Community Tank

I went to my LFS for the first time today, and it was a fantastic experience. The staff was so knowledgeable and comfortable with the fish; the selection was amazing; and all the fish looked healthy and the tanks were immaculately kept. I was impressed. They had a blue arowana and it was one of...

    Favorite kind of betta?

Halfmoons are definitely my favorite type of bettas. I'm a sucker for those gorgeous fins! Message delivered by Hermes.

Anyone else in the hobby alone?

For the most part my family and friends act politely interested, but none of them share my enthusiasm for the hobby. I suppose I'm pretty lucky since nobody is actively opposed to it, but that might change as I acquire more tanks  It always fascinates me when people can't empathize...

You Know You Love Aquariums When.....

When you're looking for a house and 'finished basement' becomes synonymous with 'fish room.' Message delivered by Hermes.

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I did my first PWC since getting my albino corys, and boy was it an experience. Either my corys are really curious or I smell like food because two of them were wiggling their barbels all over the back of my hand the second I reached into the tank. I moved some gravel around in the tank but I...

    Hello, Underwater world

The API Freshwater Master Test Kit seems to be a favorite - and with good reason. It includes tests for pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates; is more reliable than strips; one kit lasts quite a long time; and it's pretty easy ( and kinda fun) to use. Message delivered by Hermes.

    Who names their fish?

I couldn't agree more. I name all my pets, fish included, and I typically name them after characters from books or movies that have similar traits to the pet.

    Hello, Underwater world

Welcome to the forum! I'm pretty new too. It's a great source of information - I've spent hours each day combing through threads since I joined. So much to learn!

    My 29 gallon Community Tank

Hmm, maybe not in this tank then. I would still really like to try to keep clams at some point, but perhaps in a smaller tank with fewer fish (or none?) and sand instead of gravel. Thanks for the heads up! Message delivered by Hermes.

    My 29 gallon Community Tank

Thanks so much for your suggestions! I looked more into different kinds of fish and fiddled around with ideas on aqadvisor, and I came to this tentative stocking idea: -3 more corys (for a total of 6) -5 cherry barbs -5 silver hatchetfish -1 mystery snail -2 dwarf gourami -1-2 freshwater clams...

    Pump too loud please help!

In that case my original suggestion of using a towel or wash cloth might be your best bet.

    Pump too loud please help!

My suggestion would be to try putting a towel or washcloth underneath it, if possible. If you have a check valve you could even put it on your floor if it's carpeted. As long as no intakes are blocked and the pump doesn't get hot this should be an easy solution.

    Pump too loud please help!

What kind of air pump do you have? Is the pump loud because it vibrates? I have a Tetra Whisper, the vibrations of which made a real racket against the wood shelf where it was sat. I put a towel underneath it which fixed the problem.

    My 29 gallon Community Tank

This is my 29 gallon freshwater community tank. It's a Marineland tank, and I purchased in it in a kit which included LED lights which I intend to replace in the next month or two. It also included a Penguin 200 power filter and a 200w submersible heater. I installed an airstone and some decor...
