    Am i doing something wrong?

Are you seeing any nitrite? If the ammonia is remaining your bacteria have died off and you will need to wait for you tank to cycle again.

    RIP wrasse

I lost mine through a 1" hole in the back of my canopy, where he immediately became a fresh snack for my girlfriend's cat. If there is a hole a sixline will find it.

    what the best salt...

Everyone that I know that uses IO has cyano problems. Saying that IO and RC are made by the same company so they must both be crappy doesn't make alot of sense. Remember the Aveo and the Corvette Z06 are made by the same company. RC may not be the absolute best salt on the market, but...

    what the best salt...

I have used IO and hated it. I switched to Reef Crystals and love it, fish look better, disolves faster, less nuisance algae, i'm very pleased.

    Jewel cichlids and mbuna

okay, therin is where my confusion lies. so with jewels and kribs not being from the rift lakes, do they still thrive in the same hard, high ph water as the rift lake species? is there lack of aggression the only thing which makes them not compatible with mbuna?

    Jewel cichlids and mbuna

hey all, i have just setup a 77 gallon mbuna tank in my living room. For filtration i am running two fluval 404 cannisters. The tank has plenty of hiding places, and lots of open swimming areas. Right now i have some 6 kenyis, 3 yellow labs, and 3 cobalts. I am going to add 3 more cobalts...

Please help, want to add a yellow and a blue tang...

Well, to start with, It is quite normal that these, and most other fish will hide for the first little while until they become comfortable with their new surroundings. You don't need to worry about them starving during this short time. Just put some nori on a clip in the tank, and if they get...

    Crash thread....

I once set up my 77 FOWLR with sand which i got from a friend from the local golf course. It turned out to be pure, unadulterated silica sand.... OOPS! after a series of absolutely incredible outbreaks of diatoms, cyano, and greenwater, my coral beauty misteriously died, after his fins...

    lighting question ...

I think a 250 would be sufficient, as that tank is not very deep. If you arent' using any suplemental actinics, i would use a 14K to get a little blue, but not too much.

    Large Acrylic Tank

I need to order a 150- 200 gallon acrylic tank, and ship it to eastern canada. dimensions are not very important. Price is somewhat important, i've checked tenecor, and found them a little expensive, does anyone know of any companies I can check out...

    Startup advice needed

A 30 gallon is too small to house any triggerfish, let alone a triggerfish and other tankmates. You would be much better off selecting a few small, docile fish. I would highly suggest picking up a good marine aquarium specific book. The Concientious marine aquariust by robert fenner is an...

    Digital refractormeter trustworthy?

Salinity monitors such as this are extremely accurate, and extremely easy to use. However, i've never heard of this brandname, which raises some flags. IMO rather than go with this non known unit, just get a regular good quality refractometer, or a salinity monitor from pinpoint, or another...

    Need some chemistry help

The seachem ca suplement is great stuff, cheap and really concentrated. Your alk is a little low too, i keep mine around 7. Also, what kind of lighting do you have. I have found coraline grows better under PC or CF lights, and not so good under more intense lights like MH's.

    live rock show

A better alternative to the Penguin (i assume that's what your bio wheel filter is) would be an aquaclear from hagen, they do a good job of removing particulate waste, i use a sponge prefilter on the intake of mine, which i clean once a week in tank water, and then i clean the rest of the media...

    live rock show

    1. The rock won't die if you only have a little, but 25 pounds isn't going to be enough for a 75 gallon tank. You should shoot for around 1-1.5 lbs per gallon. If you use your bio wheel filter, i would take the bio wheels out of it, as they can often cause excessive ammounts of nitrate. 2...

    algae problem help

To get to the source of your problem you really need to get some test kits, or at least get an LFS to test your water for you. I've found that too little circulation can really add to the hair algae problem, what are you running in your tank for water movement?

How do I increase the productivity of my refugia?

First of all, they are nocturnal, try checking for them at night with a flashlight with a red filter over it. You can also bump up your poplulation with a pod culture from www.oceanpods.com.
