    10g brackish tank

I personally recommend dwarf puffers as the best beginner puffer anyway, and experience with these will definitely help if you plan to keep the larger more sensitive puffers in the future. In a 10 gallon, I'd recommend planting it heavily, and keeping 3 of them. The rule says 1 to every 5...

    Pleco for colder water?

Also, plecos can be extremely dangerous to axolotls. They should never be mixed together.

Help with new figure 8 puffers!!

Mistakes happen with them the first time, they're sensitive and it sounds like it may have just been the stress. Experience is the best thing you can have with puffers. I also agree 15 is a minimum, with a 20 long being preferable. Tall tanks and puffers don't mix well. But you should be fine...

Help with new figure 8 puffers!!

That's correct, if the salinity was raised too fast the BB was killed and the tank was sent through a mini cycle, but without a way to measure the salinity at this time it's hard to say if that's what happened.

Help with new figure 8 puffers!!

What kind of acclimation did you do? When making the transition you don't want to raise the salinity more than .002 a week. .005-.008 would be an ideal salinity for them, over the course of several weeks. If he was acting lethargic it could've been a lack of oxygen in the tank, or just stress. I...

    New puffer tank:-)

A 10 is a bit small. Definitely too small to consider any tank mates with.

    New puffer tank:-)

Any tank mate is always gonna be a hit or miss with puffers. They also become more aggressive with age so all could be peaceful for a year or two, then a massacre. Mine are little monsters, all of my puffers.

    New puffer tank:-)

Bumblebee gobies are usually fine with Figure 8s, there are a few brackish snails, but I don't know how they do against the puffers.

    New puffer tank:-)

He probably won't get your Apple snail.. although I've heard of the large Turbo snails lasting only days with GSPs. I haven't tried any with mine for that reason- I'm afraid I'd get attached to what would be an snack for them. Looking forward to seeing the tank finished

    New puffer tank:-)

If you keep it low end, 1.005, 1.008 at the highest, you could probably have it planted. Java fern and Java moss would probably be your best options. But you can also try Bacopa Monnieri, Cryptocoryne Ciliata. There's a few others that can potentially survive, just check out their lighting...

    New puffer tank:-)

If you're looking to make it a community, depending on the tank size and footprint I'd recommend Bumblebee gobies, or maybe a Dragon goby. Depending on their personality, you might be able to get away with Mollies or Orange Chromides but a back up tank is always good in case of aggression.

    New puffer tank:-)

Figure 8s shouldn't be kept in full Saltwater. 1.012 is their max. Long term in salinity that high causes their kidneys to fail and would lead to a premature death.

    Supermarket frozen raw shrimp

I buy almost all of my puffers food from the supermarket.

    Looking for a cool fish

Alright I think I have the same tank. In the future if you could upgrade to a different tank with a better footprint, you should be fine. The Avocado could still work, especially if you obtained a small one. I bought mine about the size of my fingernail and he has a 20 to himself as a grow...

    Looking for a cool fish

If you have the right footprint I'd be looking at the ambush puffers (personally) if you want to keep it freshwater. A long tank is necessary for any puffer though, otherwise you'll see almost constant glass surfing. The Dragon (Palembang) puffer, Arrowhead and Hairy puffers are all great...

    Halfbeaks

It depends on the species, but I know some do better in brackish. And you need marine salt to make an aquarium brackish.

    Turtles are running away!

How long did you have them for? It's possible they just went off to nest. If they lived most of their life with a previous owner they could also try going there. I don't know enough about the subject to say for sure.

    Turtles are running away!

I'm not sure how to explain this, because I've only ever heard about it, but I believe turtles have a sort of homing instinct. For example if you were to grab a wild caught one off the side of the road, they're going to try and find their way back to whatever pond or lake they came from.

    Brackish testing

I believe the FW kit is accurate for low-end brackish to mid end, from what I've heard. I think I would have to use a salt kit for anything over 1.012, but that's just my opinion.

    55g brackish stock

Do you still plan on planting the tank? If you do I think you could easily get away with more than 6. But I've only kept small groups in small tanks, never tried them in a large tank. And I love Glassfish- but I'm afraid my Figure 8s would tear them apart. Actually, I'm certain they would.

    Dwarf Puffers!

I've had ghost shrimp in mine but personally I wouldn't risk the more expensive shrimp. I've heard of people trying it, but I've never heard how it went.

    Dwarf Puffers!

Variety is best with puffers, but snails are the most important part of their diet so I wouldn't say that the blackworms and blood worms are necessary for them. And blood worms have very little nutritional value anyways. I don't have any experience with grindal worms so maybe someone else can...

Are puffers okay for my tank??! Please help :)

The SAP is a true freshwater puffer, just to clarify. And this thread was posted twice, the OP has decided against puffers and is looking for other suggestions.

Is a puffer okay for my freshwater? Please and thanks

I believe it. I'd like to learn how to do it myself before keeping them. But if I never get the courage to do it, they're going to the vets.

    Freshwater Wasp fish

Thanks- I thought brackish would be the way to go. Puffers are my favorite and I keep a few different species. I've read on.. considerably older forum posts where people keep Wasp fish with puffers but it doesn't seem like a good mix to me. From what I've read they're picky, slow eaters and I...
