New 75 gallon Freshwater Stocking Ideas?

I would not keep shrimp with Discus. Discus require very warm water. I am not sure what the shrimp like as far as temps, but the discus will eat any small shrimps that they can find.

Rainbowfish/ Pearl Gourami/ Smaller fish compatibility

I always wonder why everyone says one honey gourami. I have 2, and they love to be together. I think one would be very sad without the other. they are completely peaceful and gentle. These are great fish.

Advice for getting rid of Fish

large fancy goldfish of that size can sometimes bring a fair price. You should talk to your lfs guys. They might be willing to buy them from you.

    Honey gourami normal behavior?

I honestly don't know how to tell the difference between male and female honeys. I have 2, but I have no idea what their genders are. They get along just fine though. Very pleasant and peaceful fish.

    Honey gourami normal behavior?

Well he looks like some sort of gourami, and he does have some color, but his body shape is a little strange. The honeys are more rounded both on the top and bottom, and not quite as long. They are also more gold in color. I don't know if different gourami types interbreed, but his shape and...

    Honey gourami normal behavior?

I have two honey gouramis and they were extremely shy when they were in the quarantine tank and would only eat blood worms , but once they got into their community tank they were fine and ate the pellet food that I fed to the tank. Your mr. mango does not look like a honey gourami to me. He...

    Self feeding fish tank

I think you are planning to spend a lot of money on this set up and the maintenance, however, since you were originally worried about having time to feed the fish, how will you ever enjoy your fish tank? In one of the earlier posts someone asked if you had checked with an engineer to make sure...

    Self feeding fish tank

Research first is a smarter way to go. Also, you don't have to spend an hour coaxing fish to eat. They eat instinctively.

    Self feeding fish tank

If you have time to brush your teeth, you have time to feed fish. If you are away from home for any length of time, it sounds like you could afford to hire someone savvy enough to feed them in your absence.

Help wanted. Fish died after external filter overheated

This is really hard to understand. The filter got hot?? I don't even understand how the filter gets hot. The filter does not have its own heater, at least none that I have seen. Also, when you said you rinsed in room temp water, was that right out of the tap, or did you dechlorinate first?

    Will this work?

Be careful with a 10 gallon tank. I would suggest under stocking for a while until you make sure your tank and filter can manage what you already have.

    Releasing Goldfish

I would think he would be fine in a 4 foot deep pond, but I guess it depends on whether your pond freezes solid over winter. If it does, then wait until you can get a larger tank for him.

How long is the cycle with established filter media?

It has been my experience that using seeded filter media from an established tank makes cycling unnecessary. That is how I set up when I need to use my quarantine tank. I have never had a problem. Just always use a dechlorinator.

How to clean out a tank but not have to cycle it again

Either that or cycle again or get some seeded filter media from some source like the pet store or a friend. If you wait a week and start up again it would be best to add some seeded media to the filter, but once you add the seeded media don't wait too long to add fish.

How to clean out a tank but not have to cycle it again

You don't really have to dump everything. Just do a normal water change, add a heater for the betta. Your filter should have all the good bacteria in there. Just don't wait too long to add the betta. Your bacteria in the filter probably wont last more than about 24 hours without some fish...

    Trying to prove a point

As said before, if the gravel is smooth, the cories should be ok. Did he cycle the tank before adding fish? Does he realize that an overstocked tank needs more frequent water changes? If he does not care, then why did he get a tank?

    Dandelion Fluff?

Not really sure what is going on here , or what you are asking.

    Fish in cycle

Well for one thing you did not cycle the tank. That means that there were no bacteria in the filter to process the fish waste. Do you understand anything about cycling the tank? Also, I think your temp was way too high for minnows. They are usually a cooler water fish. Please read posts...

    setting up a new aquarium

Ok, just a few words of advice. Learn all you can about cycling. There are two ways to go, either fish in, or fishless cycle. I hope you have some idea of what cycling does. If not, your little girl may be very sad when her fish die. Use Prime water conditioner to remove chlorine and...

    Foggy Green

Really can't see any green water in the pictures. How are you managing to do so much tank moving? That is a major job! Anyway frequent water changes and a few days with a towel over the tank should help. Test your water for nitrates. As said above, they may be very high. Frequent water...

Cleaning new filter! How to do this? Help!

I'd be surprised if the filter is blocked with fish flakes to the point that it makes a noise. Make sure the cover is on properly, and check the impeller to make sure it is secure. It can make a lot of noise if it is not correctly in place. As far as cleaning it, I am not familiar with that...

? What is a good saltwater looking freshwater fish

Really if you are enjoying the look of salt water fish, then you won't find much in the freshwater category to compare with them. Doing a saltwater tank is not all that difficult, and there is plenty of help available on this forum. Check the saltwater board.

    Cloudy water

Lots of water changes. Was your tank cycled? You need to tell us a lot more. What are your water parameters? How long has this tank been set up and what do you have in it. How large is the tank? What filter do you have running and have you added anything chemical to it?
