    Filter recommendation

    I definitely love my ehiem canisters for my tanks. Though, I hated my 2217 because intake is directly at the bottom of the can and needs to be primed as you close it. So I got a 2228 for 25$. Lady said it was leaking, so I replaced the rubber seal and its been working for the past 2 years.

    I usually clean my canister once a month. All media gets old tank water rinse, but fine filter pads either gets replaced or rinsed under tap.

    Only 6-7 months? I've had mine for a year+ now. My CAE don't bother anyone, but will try to suck on slime coat off larger fishes lile angels.

    You can heat a jaccuzi to 80F in the freezing Canadian winter, you can heat a pond, but it would be cost prohibitive lol

    I've never had problems with my heaters other than it stopped working or preset temp is no longer correct. Top pick were Aqueon and Eheim, I don't know if this is still the case. I've even had several Tetra preset heaters and they all worked fine (when they worked haha). Out of 6, one died...

    I don't change my media either. Although, I rinse my sponge on tap water because it gets soon nasty I can't get it clean using old tank water, especially the fine filter pad.

    My gold fish tank has a number of large MTS, but definitely not overrun, while my community tank which has a number of assassin snail kept having tons small MTS. So I don't think you need to put them in the food chain..

    The best way to remove MTS is to watch out how you feed you fishes. Any food that drops to the substrate will be quickly ate by the MTS.
