    Too many snails

Hopefully it won't get that bad for us, but if it gets even remotely close, the tank will be completely wiped and converted to a planted turtle tank... For now, the fish are on half rations to promote eating the shelled menaces and as they get big enough, they'll be getting scooped.

    Too many snails

I was gonna post a long drawn out tale of my mysterious invaders, then in a quick search for pics of MTS, I found the following quote with nifty pics and descriptions(Link to original site): I can confirm that they do NOT need a partner to breed as my 10g now has about 100+ young MTS, few...

    Kids a fish dont mix

i.e. cheese? Our 5 year old was enjoying the cheese snack she had yesterday and thought the fish might enjoy some too. We got most of it out, but I'm sure our little finned friends managed a nibble or 2 that we missed... heh... gotta love the kids ;)

    Mollies?

I also noticed on liveaquria.com they show breeding habits(when known) in their fish listings. I specifically got only females because I didn't want breeders or aggression. Good luck!

    10-gal first timer update

In case anyone wanted to see the tank ;) edit: sorry about the dupe and blurriness; my camera isn't all that great, nor was my position very stable to get those angles

    10-gal first timer update

Well, we lost one last night. The silver molly was swimming around fine just before their evening meal, 30 minutes later she was belly-up in the bottom of the tank :( We're not sure what happened. It might have been the cheese (our 5 year old enjoyed it so much she decided to share; we got...

    10-gal first timer update

All of the dechlors I've used claim to neutralize Chlorine, Chloramines, and heavy metals as well as adding eletrolytes and minerals "to promote fish health". I should have the false results taken care of soon. I found a true lfs(not just the nearest petsmart) that specializes in freshwater...

    10-gal first timer update

I started the tank using the sample water conditioners that came with it. One was supposed to be used in conjunction with the bio-spira, the other was a different brand that I don't recall right off. I bought a full bottle of Jungle Labs brand that I'm using from here on out. As for the...

    10-gal first timer update

Just to clarify: Seeded filter media is using a filter from an already cycled tank? Or is it something that would need purchased. And I finally sat down to watch the video that came with the tank. It covered a little bit of everything I'd learned from here, and pointed me toward an idea I...

    10-gal first timer update

Don't be, they think of themselves that way too. I'm just reinforcing their own self-images ;) j/k They aren't really that bad, but they do have an uncanny knack for whining. That's another story though. We love em to death, and to be completely honest, my fiance and I were just as jazzed...

    10-gal first timer update

4 Mollies, 3 Snails. I know a fishless cycle goes quicker, but the tank was a present to the kids (5 and 6) and we bought the mollies to get them to quit bugging us about when the tank was gonna be ready(They'd already waited over a week). If I have to choose between 2 whining brats or...

    10-gal first timer update

OK, as most know from my other thread, I'm 4 days into a stocked 10-gal tank that's still early in its cycle. I had trouble with the test kit I bought, turns out I had too much water in my sample when testing for ammonia. I used a smaller sample and gotten Ammonia readings up to 8ppm or...

    Fish website

for browsing, I've actually found liveaquaria.com useful. A few of the species they carry don't have pictures yet, but everything is grouped by environment type and there's fair parameters listed for each fish too(when you pull up the breed's page, not before).

no, the biospira came with the aquarium and I doubt if was refridgerated at all. I'd expect to see some ammonium at least from the fish. I witness 2 of the 3 fish leaving some 'presents' for the snails last night. I think I'll head to the lfs and buy some fresh biospira and a better test kit.

errr... I bought a test kit and have been checking the tank, but either I'm doing something wrong, the test strips are no good, or the Bio-Spira that came with the tank didn't work :( After a little under 24 hours with 3(4 counting the 1/4 in. fry) mollies and 3 snails(one of which is now...

Mystery SNAILS Ash ;) 2 black and 1 gold. The tank came with Bio-Spira, which we have used, and since these are the first fish in the tank, I poured a little bit of the lfs water in, hoping it might help a smidge. A little being just a small splash, not the whole bag.

Final result: between 1 and 2 inches of sand Large castle decoration with lots of room for shy fish couple smaller decorations (Gator and treasure chest{air stone under the chest}) And I hate to say it, but with a 5 and 6 year old nagging us, we had to put SOMETHING in the tank: - 3 mystery - 2...

:( I remember my grandmother had a pleco in a 10-12 gallon tank for years and it never seemed cramped or too large. A cory or 3 would be fine though, yes?

I realized a few minutes before your reply that tetra and pleco were what I was thinking of, not betta and cory. I've also been reading some of the articles: - Will be testing the water once it's cycled (using the cycle booster that came with the kit) and choosing fish based on that pH. -...

Please Help with decorating UPDATE - Tank Completed

I don't know how well it would work, but I'd check some landscaping places out. Especially any that have a good reputation for ponds and such. I'm sure they'd be able to help with the waterfall you want. A lot of those ponds have simple stacks of slate glued together and hollowed out with a...

Scenario: Our 6 year old received a Top Fin Goldfish Starter Kit (10g) from Grandma. Now the Mrs and I are trying to get all our ducks in a row before we even start spending money. The kit included a variety of water additives that I've not had much chance to look at yet, a basic...
