Hi again!
Thanks all again for the warm welcome. I'm happy to report that as of yesterday the ammonia in the tank was down to .25 (from 1.0-2.0). So things are moving along in the right direction, without me having to add Prime or do anything else, water wise. I really think vacuuming the gravel did the trick, it was amazing how much stuff came out. No more letting my 12-year-old feed the fishies. No more fish have died since the last report.
I've told the boys that once we get down to 0 ppm we can consider adding some more fish, but only slowly. One question -- the manufacturers of filters recommend changing the filter cartridge a lot more often than seems necessary. What do the pros recommend for a 29 gallon with 12 fish?
