I have just purchased my second tank it is 100 gallon and I am going to do a planted tank. Can someone explain if miracle grow organic top soil will work and how?

Well you should post this in the planted forum, or wait for a moderator to move it there (if you want). You'll get more help. My plant knowledge is very limited, but I'm pretty sure it would work with a cap of pool filter sand or something else. Sorry I can't help you more.

Yep, you can add the soil to an empty tank, add a very small amount of water (just enough to make it moist) add a top layer of very very small gravel or sand, add a plate into the tank, and then fill the tank directing the flow of water at the plate. I did a 50/50 ratio of soil to pool filter sand at about 3 inches.

In my 37 I got plant sand stuff (similar to fluorite) and topped it with some even finer shiny sand, it looks pretty cool.
