African help

I am starting a tank for african, so i have prepar my tank from what i know about these fish. I know they need rock so i ve buy plenty of rock. And for the ground i have buy some black gravel, 80$ of gravel. Then i ve start to read about the diferent type . And all the website say that to start a african tank you need sand because they like sand and they need sand to breed. So did i did a big mistake, by puting in gravels ?

No they dont habe to have sand they just prefer it. But the sand would have been cheaper.

+1 they sand. I had gravel but have soon since changed to black sand.
