another java fern question

Soo I was reading this thing about java fern and it said do not bury the rhizome in the substrate when planting. What the heck is a rhizome???? I just shoved the roots under the sand
 
Okay so I just pulled it up a little so that the part all the leaves are growing out of is above the sand but all the roots are still in the ground. I think its good......think
 
Those things you think are roots are the rhizomes. You can attach it to driftwood rocks or just about any other decoration using cotton string, fishing line or even a rubberband. I have mines on driftwood and on a suction cup. Pretty easy plant to deal with
