Anubais nana white?

Ok, so I really wanted two Anubias nana for my 10 gallon, my anubaias in my 55 gallon got big, and I noticed a white section of rhizome, so I cut it off and planted it in my 10 gallon
Why is it white though?

It really should not be planted, the rhizome needs to be out in the water, people usually tie anubias off to driftwood or a rock, it's white because it's dying.

It's not tied, but don't worry, I'll tie it to a little rock once I get home
The one in my 55 gallon is planted and it's perfect
