Anyone Use Hagen Bubble Ladder for DIY?

I have a DIY CO2 system with yeast and sugar and I think my diffuser may be the limiting factor for effectiveness. I've been looking at the Hagen bubble ladder since its designed to work with DIY systems. Has anyone done this?

I've used it an it worked quite well, however I found that once the bubbles get to the top of the latter they are only about 50% smaller than when they started. Currently I just use a wooden airstone that creates very fine bubbles.
