Anything specilal about trimming java fern roots?

So the roots of the java fern that is growing on my driftwood are getting out of control. Do I need to worry about, or do anything special, to trim the roots? The plant is growing great, so I don't want to kill it or anything

If they don't bother you, then I'd just leave them alone.
