So I've had some aponogetons for quite a while and I've seen a few times about them needing a rest period. How important is this and what's the best way to do it without killing my plants?

I just used to let them in the tank and they usually would eventually start growing most of the time. That's not how your suppose to do it tho. My girlfriend used to remove them from the tank, put them in a zip lock in slightly moist sand, and store them in a dark cabinet for awhile. I can't remember how much time she kept them stored. Anyway when she would replant them they would grow like crazy again.
