55 gallon? Running co2? Lots of variables go into the process aside from light.

CO2 is more important than light when attempting to grow a decent carpet. That said, 2x54w T5-HO with good reflectors and a lot of CO2 can grow an HC carpet in a 55. Look into 3-4 bulbs for a 75 gallon, and 4-6 bulbs for a 120 gallon.
