Best way to plant grass?

So I got 4 pots of Microsword to carpet my tank.I removed it from the pot along with the paper like stuff the roots were in and planted it as a clump just like it was in the pot into the substrate.

Now im wondering if this is the best way to do it or if by spreading it out more it will carpet faster and more evenly?

I believe that you can just plant it like that and it will spread outward from where you originally put it.

It will spread quicker if you separate it and plant it. There are some great videos on YouTube on how to do it.
