Hi all,

I introduced this Java Fern to the tank about 2-3 weeks ago and today found this brown hanging growth off several of the leaves. I have not seen it on any of the other plants in the tank. My first instinct via quick research is brown algae.. but can anyone ID?

Is the algae a big threat? Will my corys take care of this or should I use a chemical?

Thank you for your advice :thanks::fish2:

These appear to be "roots" (or more appropriately rhizomes). I believe that these are produced during times of stress by older leaves. Soon leaves should appear. Another method of propagation.

I didn't know they did this... I found all sorts of information on it now. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, I'm glad it's a healthy thing!
