Can I grow any grass?

Will I be able to grow any grass type plants with this fixture...Looking to have something form a carpet effect on a portion of my tank? Any recommendations.

Not Using CO2 will use ferts once I know what is good to get.

I'd say you should be able to with the ferts and a good substrate with that light fixture. It's nice a powerful for a 55G.

Well you can either buy new substrate if you want, or just go with it pretty much and see what happens. A lot of the hobby consist of trial and error, learning from your mistakes.

Good point...It's just regular stone gravel, not the fake colored stuff, but like the estes natural stuff.

Yeah one of my tanks has some of that natural shallow stream gravel, its nice looking. But yeah pretty much just dive in and see what happens. Tweak things as you go as needed.

Get root tabs and you should be fine as far as substrate goes. I don't think you would need to replace your substrate.

Pygmy chain swords can do well with no CO2 provided you have moderate light or so...
