Can I use this to start a fishless cycle?

I have two filters running at the moment, so I figured I put one just to run as it did and the media from the other one I'll put into the brand new filter that came with the tank (this one sits in a tray above the tank). And of course I will have an eye on the water parameters...

My guess is you'll be fine. As long as it's the same stock of fish that your filters is already handling. I've upgraded tanks that way countless times. New sand, new decorations, new water, just use the old filter and nothing bad has ever happened

I finally done my moving and the new tank is all set-up!
Now I only need to check the water regularly to make sure everything is OK :)
That's how it looks like now -- I'll get some more pictures when the water clears-out!
