Can platies store sperm?

I know guppies can. But i was looking at one if my platies who looks bigger than normal. She may just have eaten a lot but now I'm curious.

I would think yes as they were developed from swords that certainly retain sperm.

I would think yes as they were developed from swords that certainly retain sperm.

While many of the commercially available color strains were crossed with swords they are their own individual species (Xiphophorus maculates) independent of swordtails (Xiphophorus hellerii) however they are the same genus. But yes they still have the ability to store sperm.
