Is there any harm from old carbon being left in the filter?

By HOBs use these cartridges and while I modified 1 to remove the carbon I'm wondering if I really need to do it to the others. Is there any harm in just leaving the filter in tact or can old carbon do something to my water quality?

I don't believe it does; before I knew carbon died after 30 days, I used to leave it in the filter for months without any consequences.

There aren't necessarily harmful effects but it is said to start leeching out any chemicals it absorbed one it is past it's expiration date. Therefore you won't contaminate anything that wasn't already I. The water but I might not nessicarily be the best tung for water quality
