Changing up Betta Tank

I want to change my betta tank. I HATE Tetra Filters. I have had 1 break. The one that is in my tank now does't sound healthy. When changing the water today the impeller fell off when I was putting the filter back in. I tried to get the impeller back in the filter but it doesn't feel like it was a tight enough fit. So

1. It doesn't sound healthy
2. The impeller could fall on Picky <- (the fishy)
3. The other day his tail fin had a part that looked ripped or loose. Almost like peeling or shedding but I am pretty sure they don't do that normally although he is pretty long fins so I dunno. I was afraid it got sucked into the filter
4. It is bulky in the aquarium

I tried to move him to a 10 gallon last year and it freaked him out. I am tempted to try it again but heavily planted.

I can remove the filter from his tank

or I can get another one. But since he is in the Tetra 5-gallon bow front the choices are limited.

Any advice?
