Conformation of calcultaion please!

Ok someone please help me confirm my math? I have no one to here to double check it for me.

A 0.5% salt content is:
4.21lbs per 100 gallons
1.9kg or 1909grams per 378.5L
8.4 x 45 = 378L
So 1909 divided by 8.4 = 227g per 45L of water to get 0.5%
227 divided by 5 will = 45.4g or 0.1% of salt.
45.4g x 3 = 136.2g of salt for a 0.3% solution in 45L of water.

IS THIS CORRECT???

Yes, but you took an absolutely painful way of getting there, and some of it didn't make a lot of sense.


The metric system beats the pants off the imperial system in matters like this. Rather than bothing with lbs to g to lbs to g, simply remember that the .3% means that for every 1000g or something, there are 3 g of something else. Since 1L = 1 kg, this becomes incredibly simple:

45L = 45 kg
45.4kg * .003 (3% in decimal)= .1362kg = 136.2g

Easy peezy.
