Crab good or bad?

not sure about that. i would think without the water circulating he'll eventually suffocate. how long were you thinking?

Not too long, a few days? Couldn't he get air from, well, the air?

the air and water will not mix on it's own. air has to be injected into the water somehow. we use circulation pumps in our aquariums so that the surface of the water moves and picks up oxygen and lets out carbon dioxide. now, how much carbon dioxide is this little guy expelling? i don't know.

I suppose I could figure out a way to let water in and out without letting him in and out.....
