I currently don't run charcoal in my fluval fx5 canister because I have it loaded with bio mass while I'm cycling the tank. Everything was fine till I added some wood I thought was leached really well. I guess it was t leached enough because the water is a little murky. Is there a way to clean it up without opening the canister. Can I use carbon some other way?

tannins aren't bad for fish at all, they are just a bit of an eye sore to the fishkeeper. If you want to clear them out without adding carbon to your filter, I would just recommend doing water changes.

Don't bother with carbon in this case, just do PWC's. Carbon is ideal for removing meds from water.
