Hi there, I've picked some driftwood from a local pond, and I'd like to add them to my aquarium. What do I need to do in order to prep them? I dont want them to contaminate my aquarium.
Besides what do I have to do to make them sink?
Thanks.

Happy 4th ....and Forza Italia!!!!

To help them sink, weight them with rocks (when soaking/boiling or, if needed, for the first few days/weeks when put into your tank).

I bought a nice piece of driftwood from my LFS on Saturday and I've had it soaking since then. I boiled it today, and its now sinking without any "help".

If you just picked it out of a pond you need to actually treat it so it doesn't cloud your aquarium. Use a preasure washer on it or take it to the car was and use high pressure rinse. Just run it for a while so you don't get any soap.

You have to get all the excess debri off before you put it in the tank.

Other than that, depening on the size you can soak it in water for a few days/weeks/months/ maybe even years. Or you can screw it to something that sinks...and bury that something under the gravel.
