I have been reading a lot of posts recently about activated carbon being a waste of money, and with my cartridges clogged up, I am thinkinking what to put in my emperor 400.

I have bought 14oz of aquarium cotton, and is just contemplating on what else to add if carbon is an unnecessary choice. My tank does not smell and does not have any unwanted colors.

Thanks in advance! :) Also the emperor 400 have two empty boxes for extra media, what would be good to place in there?

You could use these. Scotch bright pads white 6x9. Just cut to size.
That's what I use in all my HOB's

If you want carbon just put it in a filtered bag. I don't use carbon my self. I have it but don't use it.

I am one to not use filter media of any sort. Maybe someone else would have a suggestion. Sorry.

Similar to Water, i use the foam filter inserts- basically, big sponges that i cut to fit wherever i want to stuff them! I have 400's & aqueons too. I will have to check out the scotch brite pads! :)
