I got my cheaper shipment of live rock today.
Most of the rocks have light greens and some purples and a blob of red here and there, and smell ok.
One of the rocks stinks a fair amount...
Rinsed them all to dislodge dirt/sand and brushed off the WHITE areas I could see (figured that is the die off spots?).
Sadly..no critters in the box or visible at the moment.. not that I expected much considering it is fiji lr..
The second shipment will be harvested for my by the guy at gulf view after the holidays (he seems like a real nice guy btw).
My first question at this point...
I put the rocks into the water and fussed around with them some to kind of setup a shelf. In doing so, alot of 'flakes' of material came off the rocks.
Is this die off that I should have removed?
Should I siphon it all out, or leave it to aid the cycle?
This is a new tank, no livestock atm, just the rock and my sand and the water. (levels still look ok fine at this point btw)
