Well I wanted to give a deep sand bed a try on my 125 fresh water setup. I was a little nervous about it at the start but 3 ½ months in and it just kick in. came home from a work trip and the DSP look a little different … I tested for nitrates last night and … 0… I thought I made a mistake and used the tap water as a control and checked again… tank … 0…. Tap water …10…
If anyone is thinking of going with large reef tank sump set up, I suggest that you give a deep sand bed a try. Here is mine.
125 reef tank with a 30 gal sump and a 20 long deep sand bed
Built it all myself, 30 gal sump has a 12x 12 tower with top tray foam, tray 2 and 3 bio balls and tray 4 ceramic rings. The bottom of the sump is layer with shells for a PH buffer.
A very small pump take water from the sump to the DSB.
35 tangs in the community tank 5 of the six species are breeding
