glass cover with light fixture?

I believe most people have baretops anyways to allow better gas exchange. I think I saw most tanks with those with baretop
 
I don't have a glass cover on mine because it blocks some of the light from the fixture to the tank. Maybe one day I will have a canopy built for it, but until then, it seems to be doing fine without it.
 
What if the covers have the openings in the back of them for the cords and equipment will that still be an issue with the gas exchange? Some are about 1 1/2" or 2" open space in the back...
 
I run open lid on only one of salt tanks. :-( The lights I have on the others makes it necessary for me to have the glass canopy. i do leave the whole back open without the plastic insert. I luckily don't have any jumpers lol
