I just bought a 55-gallon aquarium. My first one in over 35 years. This is something I have wanted to do for the last few years and when Pet Supplies Plus did their $1.00 per gallon sale, I knew the procrastination was over.

So now I will need to look at filters and lighting for starters. I am thinking about a Fluval 306 filter and Aqueon LED lighting. Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,

You could get a Hydro sponge filter. As for lighting, you can make your own!! Here is a lighting video by a great youtuber, check his channel out.

He also makes filters and a lot of other stuff. Great channel. The lighting won't run you nearly as much if you do it this way. If you get a sponge filter you are looking at like 15-20 bucks including shipping if you buy from liveaquaria.com. Overall you are looking at like 40 bucks plus the airpump.
