I have a fish only tank.At the moment my water is very hard "Of the scale" .But my ph is 8.2 ,I have bought a buffer to bring down the hardness. And some ph up incase the ph drops to much. The question I am asking is this the right thing to do or should i keep adding ro water until the hardness is down........Regards Kathryn baxter.

Adding RO will will dilute the salinity of the water which is not what you want. The best suggestion is to do a few water changes with well aged/aerated SW. That should help bring your chemistry back into the proper range.

What is the alkalinity of your tank water and freshly made SW?

Cheers
Steve

The more chemicles you add to your tank water the "thicker" it gets. Try and keep your water as simple as possible, RO'ing your water before you add the salt (and before it hits the tank) would go a very long way!
