I have a blackmoor for the past 4 months and red cap oranda. my black moor was my first fish for about 2 months ago and I had a different red cap oranda which had ick and then wind up passing away. Thought it was ick than on her last day or two of lufe i thought it coykd hve been fin rot. Regardless i fixed the tank and the black moor "Bitner" never caught ick nd was fine for past 2 1\2 months. I got the red cap "Babs" probably 2 months ago, both are doing perfect until two days ago I bought a baby pleco about two and a half inches long. when I first got the common pleco my black moor was acting a little standoffish sitting in the corner the next day I left for 4 hours came home and saw my black moor had a chunk of its side missing not sure if the plecp had sucked on it or its fins scratched it, since plecos Fins are sharp. The lady at petland said pleco was fine to put in tank with goldfish. Just the fancy plecos with red eyes weren't. After Bitner had gotten hurt I read plecos shouldn't be with goldfish. as much as I didn't want to I called Petland and returned my pleco because I saw my black moor was under a lot of stress he also looked like he had a film on him as if slim coat was not there. immediately after I took the pleco out my black moor Bitner was swimming around perfectly, and red cap oranda "Babs" was no longer hiding under filter. After I bring my pleco to the pet store the manager told me it look like he had ick as along with the other fish that were in the tank. Meanwhile when I got the pleco she said he was healthy. I showed her the dots she said it wasn't ick. UNREAL -- she said to Just to put PRIMAFIX in tank the day I got the pleco. --- OneStopPlus cold out of my tank and she noticed he had told me to go home and dose my tank once with medicine just in case the fungus was swimming around. and then the following day change 25% and start up with the Prima fix once and double dose the slime coat to repair the damage side. Which I waited 2 days bc that is what medicine said to do, even though he did not have if I follow the instructions. Two days later which is this morning 8 a.m. I notice Bitner has ick on him :(

I treated with ick medicine 6 hours later i do 25 percent water change and add half a dose of prima fix since that is what manager at petland told me to do.& too much medicine could also stress out the fish.

Babs the red cap oranda is swimming fine all day along with Bitner the blackboar until 3 hours ago Bitner is just sitting at the top moving his fins just not swimming but still eating.

My fish that past from pick stopped eating so I'm looking at this was good news.

My question is, should I do another water change now?? My PH level is low how do I higher it? It at about a 6.4 when ideal is 7.2 --- even before Bitner got sick my PH level was never at 7.0-7.2

Hi, how are they all doing? I'm not sure if I caught everything but I would do a water change (assuming it fits in with the recommendations on the meds label).

Have you tested tap water for ph? Test straight away and then pour some in a jar to degas for 24hrs. Test again to get true ph.

I would agree with light or half dosing on the pimafix. Are you dosing that with the ick meds?

Sorry I just sent you a mesagae , I'm horrible with this app is so confusing on my Nexus 7. So I'm just going to read copy and paste the other message I sent you in this one so you could see what I had written previously

Hello I have a black moor for about 5 months. & a red cap oranda for about 4 months. They both live together in a 20 tank long. Both are doing amazing about a month ago. I decided to get a pleco and I noticed after few hours the black moor had a chunk of him missing so I figured there's nothing else in the tank but the filter rocks and one plant there's nothing he could have scratched himself on, especially since he never got a wound in the four months prior this Pleco. So I decided as hard as it was to return the pleco, it had to be done considering o already brought the black moor (Babs) back to life after buying him from petland.

.. But now for a month my black moor has not been the same since I bought the pleco, even though the plus go was gone within 3 days of having him. The black more Babs hasn't been swimming around as much as he always used to he was a bigger than the red cap oranda but now they're about the same size Blackmore eats all the time so I don't think there's anything wrong, but I do noticed him coming up to the top of a lot more to get air. sometimes I see him jump a little bit out of the water and back in which is a little odd he never did that as well. And he stays to the top a little bit more than usual and the top of his eyes and the top of his top fin sticks out of the water a little bit I've noticed about 2 weeks now those two spots are little on the grey/white side I don't know if I should add prima fix or not. My boyfriend had just noticed three of his scales are missing so he is a little more of stress coat before he left for work.

So now I just get home from work go to feed my fish and only noticed the red cap oranda I admittedly look around considering my filter is black sometimes the black moor camouflage in and I noticed the filter is against the wall and the black moor is in the corner so I bang on the tank seconds later I noticed him Swim from being upside down and he swims away quick almost in disarray swims really quick from the bottom as the red cap oranda starts p pushing him in the tail almost as if she might have not seen him for a while. Which got me nervous it took him about 15 20 seconds before he came up to the top to eat he swimming around fine right now but I'm a just a little nervous. Should I do a water change and add prima fix or just the stress coat what do you think sorry for such a long message I really hope you can help me

Hi, did he recover from the pleco attack (my neighbor had same problems) or had worsening problems ever since?

Also have you tested the water for ph, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates plus temp? Ideally with liquid based test kit, not cardboard strips.

I'd do the water change, try the stress coat and pimafix (well mixed in change water so he doesn't get a chemical cloud) and see if that nudges him out of it. This is just for light infections but it does sound if something going on. Water parameters are first thing to check. Also did you ended up testing the tap water (straight away and also after 24hrs in an open bottle so it de-gasses and you get true ph).

Also don't feed for a day. What are you feeding at the moment? Is there any bloating or anything that would cause him to be rolled over?

Last one is would you have a pic of the two spots? Are they a film like an infection or just scale change.
