what color is it? looks like a red melon sword. if its brown its algae unless its under the "skin".

It's hard to tell exactly what's going on there. I see you're relatively new here, so welcome to AA!

More information about your tank would help.
- What kind of lighting are you using? Bulb type and wattage info please.

Going by your "My Tanks" link, you're still cycling this tank. If that's the case, you probably have diatoms (brown algae). They're a common problem in new tanks. Give it some time and they'll burn themselves out.

if it wipes off very easy its probably diatoms.

however i think that its probably a deficiency. do you use root tabs?
