HELP noob questions

The thing about marines you definitely need to read a lot and plan everything you are going to buy and stick to that plan. The equipment are expensive but there are ways to make it less expensive; like purchasing second hand equipment, buying dead rock works out cheaper and its not so hard making it live just the long patience needed.

If your looking for freshwater cichlids, then african type cichlid are definitely a good choice. The colours are amazing and they can be easy breeders. I would advise lots of ocean rock and as high as you can get it as the higher the decoration, the higher they tend to feel comfortable to swim.
 
If you don't have an established area group, starting one and then posting on Craigslist etc might be helpful. You'll be surprised how many salty soggy types are out there :)
